ABOUT

        SOME WORDS ON MY WORKS

The extensive hiatus between the rustic and the urban cultures falls in unceasing struggle. It’s an undaunting challenge to me to apply that in my works. The motto of my art is the hidden tension lying in between villages and towns.

Various incidents, instigations and mystery in different characters of towns and villages are going on amidst the tension of the pace of nature. My art ventures to give vent to these facts. Some apparent incidents may seem to be extraordinary strange to us; but in reality those are very common and natural. Some behaviours of rats, cats, owl and other animals, birds and insects may appear unnatural but those are absolutely natural. Such things are observed in some instinctive reactions of human kind. What I understand and seek to propagate is that no place is restricted for art.

Some kind of supernatural or anti-natural phenomenon or sight often aids to the conflict between credibility and incredibility. The ever changing flux of caprices of time Gather into our mind various evolution or expressions. Our long cherished experience gets demolished at the daring sight of an undisturbed copulation of frogs in front of a cold, passive presence of a venomous snake. Monalisa and the Taj, respectively two symbols or representative figures of the occidental and the oriental, have been intermingled to show off the co-existence of two great heritages – and this obviously offers some extra-wordly background. Lured by the physical attraction of the vagina-like gourd-flower, a part of nature, the butterfly and the other insects indulge in sexual intercourse. These semi-lighted anecdotes come alive and inspire or rather goad for a crossing of the known boundary.

For the sake of image-creation I use various media and sometimes oil, water-colour or acrylic. Medium is used in accordance with subject matter or substance. I am keen on using appropriate medium with a view to mingling image and incident. I often seek to establish local elements through paining images with pin and string. What I feel is the bleeding or inexpressive pang of various images. I feel an urge for keeping a natural flow of the local kaantha-stitch art and its prospects. Since my childhood I have been watching this kaantha-stitch ; therefore this art automatically gets access into my art. Moreover, a sort of my identity works behind choosing this.
